Septic Tank Installation

The process of getting a new septic system can seem overwhelming if you're not familiar with the steps involved. Whether you're building a new home or replacing an outdated system, understanding septic tank installation is an important part of ensuring the job is done right. At Septic Blue, we're here to guide you every step of the way. Here's everything you need to know about septic tank installation in Fort Myers, Florida.

The Process of Septic Tank Installation

Septic tank installation involves a detailed process that must be followed carefully to ensure the system functions efficiently and lasts for years to come. Here’s a step-by-step guide to how an installer handles this process:

Septic Tank Installation
  • Site Evaluation and Permitting: The first step is a thorough site evaluation. A septic company in Fort Myers will assess your property to find the best location for the septic tank, considering factors like soil type, groundwater levels, and local regulations. Once a suitable spot is identified, necessary permits from local health or environmental departments are obtained.
  • Excavation and Tank Placement: After permits are secured, excavation begins. This involves digging a hole large enough to accommodate the septic tank and piping. A septic tank installer in Fort Myers will ensure the hole is level and the base is prepared with a layer of gravel or sand for more stability. The tank will then be carefully lowered into the hole.
  • Connecting the System: Next, they will connect the tank to your home’s plumbing. This involves laying pipes that lead from your house to the tank and from the tank to the drain field. Proper sealing and sloping of these pipes are critical to ensure the system operates smoothly and prevents leaks.
  • Testing and Inspection: Before the system is fully covered, it’s tested for leaks and proper flow. A technician will inspect all connections and fittings to ensure everything is functioning correctly.
  • Backfilling and Landscaping: Once the system passes inspection, the excavated area is backfilled with soil, and the landscape is restored as closely as possible to its original condition. At this stage, additional features like risers or inspection ports may be added to make future maintenance easier.

How to Select the Best Septic Tank Size for Your Home

Choosing the appropriate size for your septic tank is an important decision that impacts the efficiency of your entire septic system. Here’s how to determine the best fit for your home:

  • Consider Household Size: The number of people living in your home is the primary factor in determining tank size. A larger household generates more wastewater and will require a larger tank to handle the load without frequent pumping.
  • Estimate Water Usage: Consider your household’s water usage patterns as well. Homes with multiple bathrooms, washing machines, and dishwashers will need a larger tank to manage the increased flow.
  • Account for Future Needs: Think ahead to any future expansions or changes in household size. Installing a slightly larger tank now can save you the expense of a later upgrade.

A professional septic tank installer in Fort Myers can help you calculate the right size based on these factors so that your system operates efficiently without overloading.

Common Mistakes to Avoid During Septic Tank Installation

Mistakes made during septic tank installation can lead to future repairs and system failures. Here are some common pitfalls to watch out for:

  • Ignoring Local Regulations: Every area has specific regulations for septic tank installation. Failing to comply with these can result in fines, forced relocations, or even complete system overhauls. Always work with a company that’s familiar with local rules and requirements.
  • Poor Site Selection: Placing a septic tank too close to water sources, buildings, or unsuitable soil can cause serious issues down the line. Proper site evaluation is needed to avoid these placement mistakes.
  • Improper Sizing: As mentioned, choosing the wrong tank size can lead to frequent pumping, backups, or even system failure. Always speak with a professional to select the correct size.
  • Incorrect Pipe Sloping: Pipes must be sloped correctly to ensure wastewater flows properly into the tank and from the tank to the drain field. Incorrect slopes can cause blockages and backups, leading to unpleasant and costly problems.

Preparing Your Property for Septic Tank Installation

Preparing your property adequately can make the installation process smoother and more efficient. Here’s what you can do:

  • Clear the Area: Remove any obstacles, such as trees, rocks, or debris, from the installation site. This makes excavation easier and also prevents future root intrusion, which can damage the tank and pipes.
  • Ensure Accessibility: The installation site should be easily accessible to the septic company’s equipment. This includes making sure there’s a clear path for excavation machinery and that the site is not obstructed by fences or other structures.
  • Notify Neighbors: It’s a good idea to inform your neighbors about the upcoming installation, especially if the work will cause noise or temporarily disrupt the neighborhood. Being courteous can help avoid complaints or issues during the project.
  • Plan for Future Maintenance: While preparing for installation, consider future maintenance needs. Installing risers or inspection ports now can make future septic service visits faster and less intrusive.

What Our Customers Say About Us

Mike was more than fantastic. He explained the basics of what he was going to do prior to looking and came back within minutes with a thorough report or what needed to be fixed and things we might have seen (all of which were spot on without an input from me!). Things were worse than I expected, but he thoroughly fixed everything and showed me pictures of each step he took so I’d know the condition of my tank when he left. He gave me extremely helpful tips of things to do for future (fixing downspouts to drain away from the leech field, explained how septic systems work, looked up my leech field on the Fort Meyers website and so much more). He was also very personable and we will be specifically requesting him in the future.

Absolutely amazed by this company and Adam. They came prepared for everything. I've never seen a company this prepared before. I will use them from now on. Not only did we recieve and education about the system Adam found the issues we have asked other companies about and said we had none. Adam fixed all our issues while emptying the system he added filter that was never installed and should have been from the very start and also installed a clean out so we can actually clean the filter ourselves . This is the only company I will trust with my septic from now on. I highly recommend this company and Adam the service tech .

Our septic system needed to be pumped and we had some drain line issues. Septic Blue was the first company (after trying several companies, at least two of which failed to show for their scheduled appointment and then told us to find someone else) to schedule an appointment quickly and to show up on time and get the requested work done. Our service technician, Andrew, was extremely pleasant to speak with, open to questions and he proved to be very knowledgeable. Andrew guided us through the process (we purchased this home late last year and I’ve not dealt with septic much before) and offers several options for both short term and long term solutions. We will definitely be using this company (and hopefully they will always send Andrew as our tech!) for all future work.

This is the second time we have used Septic Blue in two and a half years, and both times we have had a wonderful experience. Our septic system needed to be pumped. They were able to schedule us quickly and even called to show up a day early this time. Brett was very professional and great to work with. He was patient with us, while we asked several questions and he took the time to educate us on how to care of our system. He was extremely knowledgeable. I doubt I will ever need another Septic company, as they provide great service at a great value. I compared several companies before choosing this one and they beat competitor prices with pumping service that included digging out the tank and lifting our concrete lid. I highly recommend this company for your septic system needs.

I had called a couple of different companies to come pump my septic. Septic blue had the most competitive price and were able to come out in short notice. Lori answered the phone and took my appointment. I told her my septic was full and she quoted me a price. She was very pleasant and kept in contact with me. They did have to reschedule my appointment for the next day (Christmas eve) which was totally fine with me. They asked if morning would work for me, I agreed. Lori called me before arrival just to confirm and let me know who my technician would be. Bret the technician showed up on time. He informed us of some issues we'd need to get fixed, which we were aware we had a problem. He told us what we'd need to do and how to go about it. He did inform me that our septic was also overflowed and there would be charge for it. Although, he didn't charge the extra fee, since I wasn't informed of it. The two people I dealt with Lori and Bret had great customer service skills. This was my second time using this company to pump out my septic. I had a fantastic experience the first time as well. I really appreciated their help.
